Frank Rimer

Frank is a barber and owner of the very cool Thy Barber, based out of The Bike Shed in East London. We met by chance when Frank happened upon our Camden store, and told us all about his then brand new venture, Thy Barber. We quickly released that our aesthetics aligned and when Thy Barber opened their doors, we were there showcasing our watches.

Tell us about yourself:

I started cutting hair a long time ago, I was 17 years old and found my love for hair in my home town of Maidstone in Kent, but it was only when i moved to London I truly understood the true meaning of culture, trends, and tradition.

It amazed me how different the lifestyle was, and how men and women alike, were bringing back the original trades of our time, baking their own bread, hand making jewellery, hand stitching clothes, crafting their own beers and spirits. That's when I found a passion for barbering, bringing back the original trade that had almost been dusted under the rug.

I opened up my shop in Shoreditch to offer that experience to London's patrons. We play 50s rock 'n' roll and country music, we offer whiskey and beer on the house, sell classic hair pomades to finish your look, not to mention we only cut the classics. The smell of musky cologne in the air and the taste of a nice bourbon on the tongue I feel takes customers a step back and makes them realise its not all about white walls and teenage girls washing your hair. It's about a relationship between a barber and his clients that will exist for years to come. Laughter, experiences, stories, trust. That to me is what makes this place so special.

What do you love about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is that I never have to work a day in my life, to me it's not a job, it's a way of life, without it I'd be lost.

What inspires you?

The things that inspire me are old movies, going online and looking at photographs from the “good ol’ days”, not mention clothing. There's nothing better than dressing in a good waistcoat, braces, grandpa collar shirt, set of boots and putting on all the right accessories to match, that includes a hair cut that fits your personal style.
